(Rasberry)
The hot new lick in dining marketing is the nonalcoholic beverage
pairing. Now when you attend wine/food pairings and other special
dining events you don’t have to be left out of the food pageant if you
choose not to drink.
The designated driver, the mother to be, the underage, those with
tiny tummies, the migraine sufferer, the dieter, the recovering
alcoholic no longer have to sit by with a forced smile as friends sigh
with appreciation over the marriage of their entrée and wine.
Discovering which non-alcholic beverages go well with what dishes is a
challenge for the chef, but Chez Panisse in Berkeley, Aquavit in New
York, Sensi at the Bellagio in Las Vegas and the French laundry in
Yountville, California are among the establishments that have taken up the
challenge. Their offerings include chilled herbal and black teas,
infusions, cherry ginger ale, luscious tart juices with a lime or
lemon base and many more.
As a non-drinker, I find that very refreshing!
