For years I’ve wanted to post two geological signs. I’m too old now. So this blog is the best I can do.
-
The first would be on Highway 1 that goes between Daly City and Pacifica. The sign going West would say “Leaving the North American Plate entering the Pacific Plate.” The reverse side would say the opposite: “Leaving the Pacific Plate entering the North American Plate.”
If there were a way to do it, the sign would also say “ The North American Plate is Moving South 6 feet per Century.” The reverse sign would say “The Pacific Plate is Moving North 6 feet per Century.”
From the vantage point of the sign a person looking North would see the San Andreas Fault that created Lake Merced in San Francisco and looking South would see Lake San Andreas created by the same fault.
2.The second geological sign would be on a striated outcropping on O'Shaughnessy Drive along the West side of Glen Canyon Park in San Francisco. The Drive starts at Portola and ends at Bosworth Street.
The sign would say “The Top Striata of rock was created on the Ocean Floor 400 million years ago. Raised up to the surface by the subduction of the Pacific Plate plunging under the North American Plate. All the Striata below the Top Layer are older than 400 million years.”
I hope this can be done sometime in my remaining years.
