I watched a new CBS show The Equalizer last week and saw four recent CBS shows in the past few days. I will not watch them again. They are too ‘woke’ for me.
The Equalizer is predominantly a black action program with a few white actors. All the black actors use Standard American English which is necessary in prime time because Black American English (Ebonics) would be understood by too small an audience and no audience outside the U.S. The hero’s daughter (image on the right) is central to the story and “sings” a rap piece about the value of protest marches, particularly the marches about Michael Brown and George Floyd.
CBS also has made four other shows too ‘woke’ for my taste. The FBI and FBI Most Wanted have focused on bad guys who are violent murderous patriots. CBS could find violent murderous bad guys among Antifa and BLM, but being ‘woke’ they don’t.
CBS has added characters who are unpleasant people on MacGyver and NCIS Los Angeles. These two shows also have lame story lines that are increasingly improbable but ‘woke.’
The top global CBS show NCIS has replaced a quirky tech nerd with a bouncy black techie who is neither interesting nor credible. It hasn’t ruined the show, yet.
The problem ‘woke’ network TV faces is that most viewers have many alternatives these days, and many like me, are finding TV that isn’t ‘woke’ a reasonable alternative.
