My wife, riding BART from the airport, noticed that the name on the Fruitvale Station in Oakland on the map in the train had been changed to ‘Oscar Grant’.
This was an issue that came up last Summer, six months ago. Lefties of the Black Lives persuasion didn’t get the BART Board to change the name of the station. So they began gluing their own names on all the maps. Clearly the cleaning crews have not fixed the issue.
It is a rather brilliant piece of theater and hard to reverse, I imagine.
I don’t favor the action but must note its ingenuity and contribution to social action.
Oscar Grant was a black 22 year old trouble-maker. He and his three buddies had been screwing around on one of the trains and were told to get off by the BART police. At the station where they got off, they continued messing around and wouldn’t stop when told to. One of the police knocked Grant to the ground and another tried to use a taser to subdue him. The officer accidentally used his pistol instead of the taser and killed Grant on the ground.
As you can imagine, the black community went into paroxysms of hysteria. And as usual, the black community blamed the white police officer not the out-of-control black men who were being rowdy and threatening to everyone around them.
The young inexperienced police officer went to jail for 5 months before the sentencing and another 7 months in prison.
Modern anti-white racism with a severe penalty for a rowdy black and an innocent poor white.
Interesting enough that you might want to know about it.
