What would happen if you put several of my recent blogs together?
Take one spoonful of the radical changes the hippies made in our society, especially their emphatic love of business, honesty, optimism and openness. A generation of hope, pleasure and Dionysian energy.
Take one spoonful of the fact that they were young, under age 23, the point where the brain loses its ability to create new thinking and becomes hard boiled.
Take a third spoonful of college attendance. Most hippies didn’t go to college.
Mix thoroughly over a 35 year period and what do you get?
You get the first 20 year period 1980 to 2001 with the fastest growth in recent American economic history, a period that started out with stagflation and then began a period of revolutionary technical innovation, much of it originating with the hippies.
You get the next 15 years to the present where the zombie minded group that went to college slowly becomes the controlling elite of universities, the media and the political world. They create a counter revolution that is anti-American, anti-commerce, Luddite and angry, morose, populated with the walking dead.
They also go to extremes to avoid ever studying the hippie era except for pot and rock music.
Is that what happened? Some young people avoided college and created a vital world, the others went to college and are now boring us to death?
