Yesterday’s blog has some relevance to this one.
The hippie movement that created the modern world, started in San Francisco. It is no surprise that the strongest anti-commerce, Luddite world is now centered on San Francisco.
San Francisco had one of the first business destroying minimum wages, required business health plans, laws against national companies opening outlets in the City and campaigns to keep major businesses out of the City and to drive away most of those that started here.
San Francisco hates businesses even those recently started here like Airbnb, Uber and Athleta.
Why? My core rule of human group behavior. All revolutions have a counter revolution in the same place.
I learned this from Coyote. Coyote was a pro-prostitutes organization started by Margo St. James. I helped Margo with money, office space and regular support. It started in San Francisco and grew to be a worldwide organization. It was very effective at getting the message out that money for sex is not a crime. Laws against prostitution are an attack on women’s rights and independence.
Lo and behold, to my great surprise, less than ten years after Coyote started and grew to immense size and importance: an anti-prostitution campaign started in San Francisco. The anti-campaign succeeded in getting the police to arrest ‘Johns’ and publish their names in the daily newspaper. One of my friends was among the first males humiliated. Of course the only Johns arrested were those who use inexpensive cheap street hookers who could be imitated by police women.
I have many more examples saved for a later date. The law is simple: Counter-revolutions occur right where the original revolution started.
