I saw a Youtube discussion between two academics; Jonathan Haidt and Gad Saad. It is long.
Towards the end they talk about PC on campus.
They concur that the root cause is racism. Or more accurately ‘racist guilt’. In many courses, but especially the ‘victim classes’ of women’s studies, gender studies, black studies and LGBT studies, students are told they are racist.
So they act out to overcome their racism, demanding all sorts of amelioration on the campus; including creating safe spaces, trigger warnings, all black dormitories and all black classes.
This pseudo-racist guilt is called ‘white privilege’ and is exercised against a hierarchy of victim classes: Blacks first, followed by women, gays and recently added to the mix, Muslims.
This appeal to racist guilt makes some sense to me. I am still struggling to understand how Americans could ever have elected the most arrogant, mean spirited, incompetent Anti-American, black man to the presidency for a second time.
