I read a brilliant piece by Bret Stephens in the Wall Street Journal last week (11/2). He backs up this statement, the core of the article: “Modern liberalism is best understood as a movement of would-be believers in search of true faith.”
My reaction was ‘I’m incredibly fortunate to be living in a time when such brilliant minds are publicly available’.
We all are. And those of us who read these superb thinkers are the most fortunate. Of course there are many people who are alive and don’t read any of my heroes. But they are still fortunate even if they waste their good fortune.
The other extraordinary thinkers and writers I see regularly are: Mark Steyn, Charles Krauthammer, Matt Ridley, Victor Davis Hanson, Shelby Steele, Thomas Sowell and a few others I can’t think of this moment.
