I’ve advanced my own idea of the reason for the almost global obesity issue. I argue that the Darwinian competition at the retail food shelf has increased the appeal of fattening food to the point that they are individually tailored and irresistible.
I have broadened my view to include every explanation that is circulating. I accept them all.
I now recognize my daughter Cynthia’s observation as the core fact of obesity. Cynthia says that once you gain weight you can’t lose it.
I have been to Weight Watchers three times. The first two times I lost massive amounts of weight. And gained it back over a few years.
The best U.S. study of weight loss found that Weight Watchers had the best success of all weight loss programs. But only 3% of graduates kept their weight off for three years.
Understanding the ratchet reality of obesity gives us a full understanding of the issue. You can gain weight for any reason; sugar, corn syrup, fat, lassitude, stress, cheaper food…. any reason it doesn’t matter.
The whole population gains weight because their is a ratchet effect. We go up, but we don’t go down. Awfully simple. Three cheers for Occam’s Razor and Occam’s hatchet.
