Out of sheer courtesy I will say what ‘microaggressions’ are, though I am certain all my readers know what they are.
They are the trivial acts where whites (usually males) are accused of ignoring hostile references to non-whites and non Americans.
Examples are: using a scale of 1 to 10 graphically and making the 1 to 5 black to gray. Signalling that black is inferior. Making a monster or the bad character in a story wear black clothes or costumes. Or wearing a woman’s wig. Again signalling that black and female are negative. Or referring to the leader of a group as chairman, implying that women are not leaders.
So why do I consider this focus on microaggressions to be good?
The focus on microaggressions is apparently rampant on college and university campuses with classes on the subject and faculty complaining about their mistreatment because of the issue.
If this is a modern day real concern then the important old issues of racism, patriarchy and a whole range of phobias (homo, islamo, etc) are no longer evident in our society.
You don’t complain about too many flies and gnats when there are wolves, lions and poison snakes in your neighborhood.
