It is not obvious to us old folks how much of a learning tool Google is. Not only does it answer our questions, which some may see as learning, it can and does lead us to new information that we weren't looking for. Much like browsing in an old fashioned library or just browsing in an old fashioned encyclopedia.
What got me on this track? I woke up one morning thinking I should honor my fellow Jews who died in the last Jew hating Shoah. We are in a new one now.
The idea I came up with was to get a number tattooed on my arm. That led me to the question 'how many digits did the Germans use?' The number of digits would have been a clue to the size of their intended project.
Thanks to Google I learned two things.
My idea is not new. Using Google images and following the clicks to the original pages, I found several people who had gotten number tattoos on their arms for exactly the same reason. Too honor Jews in the last Shoah.
And... tattoo numbers were not used on my people who were marched directly to their deaths, mostly women, children and old folks. The tattoos were for the worker slaves. So the number of digits needed was not very large. Five, or so, with an alpha to show which death camp the slaves came from.
I learned those two surprises from Google. Not just Google but from Google images.
