There is a perpetual discussion in the United States about the role of soccer as an American sport. I have voiced my opinion on this issue in the past. (here and here)
There is a new factor to consider. It has now entered the popular domain that girls face three times the concussion risks of boys when playing soccer.
From looking at my own family it appears that girls are no longer being encouraged to play soccer. That will certainly doom soccer in America.
Since Title IX of the US code requires equal school funding for male and female athletics that raises the question of what sport girls will pursue now.
I suspect that means swimming and tennis will be the beneficiaries of the soccer concussion problem for girls.
