I have been visiting a few friends homes recently and noticed that hidden in the corner or sitting under a desk is a Wi-Fi transmitter.
Why is this?
I think it is because this little piece of technology was expected to be a short term solution to connecting all of the digital objects in a home or office.
The fact that it not did not become a short-term solution and is now with us two decades later means that it has not been thought through.
The Wi-Fi should long ago have become a household appliance that is well-designed and effectively fits into a wide range of decor.
It isn't; it needs to become part of the house. Brand-new houses are able to build wires into their circuits. But even this ignores the fact that a wide range of household and office electronics are going to be transmitted through the ether not via wire or cable.
Let's get some design students working on something far more relevant than a god damn chair or bicycle. Design students, its time to design some Wi-Fi's.
