For those of you in the world of media the term 'second screen' is meaningful.
For the rest of us an explanation is needed. Second screen refers to a smartphone or tablet that is used while watching the main TV screen.
To understand the impact of the second screen I was shocked when my partner and I watched a movie on the TV screen and we talked about it afterwards. She was reading on her smartphone.
She had already looked up the characters in the movie as well as the real life story behind the film.
My partner knew how the characters in the film had been cast in a way that contradicted the values of the real-life story and she also knew the outcome of the events portrayed in the film.
I saw the film and accepted the storyline and character premises as close to the truth. It was a slow moving but heart warming film.
She saw a film about deception, ethnic malice and a subsequent tragedy that took advantage of public gullibility.
So to put it mildly, the second screen can a have dramatic and far-reaching impact on the way we perceive what is on the main screen.
