I have already said in earlier blogs that women remain second-class citizens. If you doubt me, suggest that any woman you know, of almost any age, go out for a walk in the dark in an urban area at a time when a man would be willing to walk in the dark.
There are many times after dark when men are perfectly comfortable walking urban streets and women are not. That is why I say they are second-class citizen. They live in fear and dependence on men.
This should not be true.
Women now have the ability to earn a living at levels equal to or greater than men. They have the morning after pill so they cannot be forcibly made to have children.
If women were demanding first-class citizenship, meaning the right to walk on the streets of any city at the same time as a man, they would demand the right to carry a pistol.
Apparently this is becoming the case slowly. At present 25% of American women own a firearm. When women can use a pistol and carry it with them and more than a third of all women do so, women will promptly become first-class citizens.
The transition of women into modernity has been fairly rapid and has been underway now for 50 years. In another 50 years it is possible that women will become first class citizens and be able to walk at night with the same level of confidence that a man can.
If there are women readers of this blog who are foolish enough to think that society is going to protect them by disarming aggressive criminals and rapists, then such a reader is still thinking like second-class citizens. Full first class citizens take full responsibility for their own lives.
