One of my good friends who is in the business of renting cars, high end cars, has developed a fascinating technique for training his sales people.
He sends his newly hired or newly promoted salespeople to spend one night in a top-of-the-line luxury hotel.
After the experience of life in a top-flight luxury hotel my manager friend is able to constantly refer back to that experience.
He can say to an employee 'based on your experience at the hotel do you think one of our high-end customers would react favorably to what you just did'?
He uses that reference on a constant basis to try and help his employees think like the customers who come to him for high-end rental cars.
I am impressed with my friend's managerial skills.
