In the previous blog I discussed the milieu that attracts the kind of people who start new businesses.
It is at this point that I wish to call your attention to used clothing stores. In my area these stores sell everything and are generically called 'Goodwill stores'.
First, I will appreciate the environmental movement, if the day ever comes when these mental zombies, begin to notice that basic recycling occurs in used goods stores. 'Simple living' has always been based on reused and recycled products in our lives.
I have never seen environmentalists praise the recycling attributes of 'Goodwill stores'. Enviros are too snobby for that.
But the most important role for used clothing stores, for me, is that they are a sign of the abundance of people who are starting new businesses.
Surprised?
Of course people who are starting new businesses are so determined to make their businesses successful, so determined to plow all of the energy and time and resources into their projects that they spend little or nothing on clothing.
That is the role for used clothing stores that I appreciate. They support an entrepreneurial environment.
It also means that the kind of people that entrepreneurs want to work with are attracted to such areas.
Next time you look at a used clothing store look at the people browsing around inside for dishes, electronics, jackets, shoes and whatever and recognize that this is a real environmental paradise and a real home for future new business creators.
