Throughout my life I have heard people make a comment to the effect that the ideal government would be a wise king.
This is often offered as an example of the person's dissatisfaction with the problems of democracy and their own display of wisdom.
It is not.
The idea of the wise king is flawed for two obvious reasons and no intelligent person should make a statement about it.
First we have never found a way to have multiple generations of wise leaders under any circumstances nor under any historic conditions. No such system exists nor has it ever existed. So choosing a wise king would be a very short-term solution to anything.
Second and most importantly, the best decisions in a complex modern society are made by individuals at the individual level in the system we know as commerce.
Insofar as any form of governance can imitate commerce and allow individuals to make as many autonomous decisions as possible, that will be good government.
