I had no confidence whatsoever in any known alarm system nor in notifications to the police. I had dealt with the police on occasion and found them to be unreliable at stopping burglary.
My solution was to alarm the accessible points in my house and connect these points to my high wattage quadraphonic sound system.
When I left the house I flipped a switch that connected the alarm system to the sound system, turned up very high, with a cassette disk that immediately began playing. The high volume surround sound system played the William Tell overture.
At that time, most people over 15 years of age still had memories of the Lone Ranger whose theme song came from the William Tell overture finale.
I assumed that any burglar entering the house and hearing a deafening version of the William Tell overture would run for his life.
I never got a chance to find out. No one ever burglarized or accidentally entered my house.
