I have reported in the past the Japanese efforts to increase the number of children with financial inducements of every kind, including inducements to potential grandparents. All efforts have failed.
I have reported on my visits to repatriated Japanese from Brazil. They have been rapidly returning to Brazil. The Japanese have not found a solution to the decline in their total population which is now 2 million below their peak of 123 million.
Japan believes it is not capable of absorbing immigrants.
That is not how the government is currently behaving. Japan has been actively accepting non-legal immigration. Immigrants are coming from the Philippines, South Asia and South Korea as they have in the past to fill serious worker shortages.
What is different now is that the government is giving these workers extended temporary work visas and making no efforts to stop the number from growing rapidly. We are talking a million per decade.
Additionally, young Japanese men are traveling to other parts of Asia and bringing back wives. A somewhat effective way to have new Japanese children.
All in all, before too long Japan will figure out how to make this immigration legal and popularly acceptable. It looks like Japan will have solved its demographic problem.
