There was a time when men had duels regularly over honor. Honor is primarily associated with family and family name.
It is my contention that family has been on a straight line decline in importance for the entire period in which honor has been declining in the United States.
There has been a particularly rapid decline in the importance of honor since the evaporation of hereditary elites in 1960.
What does this mean?
It means that we Americans are far more able to work together in a business environment because we are never challenged about how our behavior reflects on our family.
It means Americans are absolutely incompetent to understand anything about the Arab or Persian world. Worlds in which family and honor are everything. Everything.
