San Francisco has a new contribution to the daily laugh for the world. Our city legislators are voting on a proposal to require nudists to stay out of restaurants and put a towel on a public bench before they sit down.
For about a year now, my neighborhood, the gay Castro, has had a small group of men, often in twos or threes, who walk around naked. On warm days ten of them will sit on a high traffic corner and wile away the hours. I have watched the public walk past this group.
About half the people walking by try to avert their eyes, a quarter take a picture and a quarter actually look.
I don’t have an opinion on what legislation is required if any. It doesn’t bother me. However there is one human behavior that I find totally offensive.
That is the smelly, filthy, homeless street people who come into my grocery stores, my coffee shops and ride on public buses. They are disgusting. I would be 10 times more interested in having several thousand smelly, filthy, homeless regulated than wasting time regulating 10 nude men.
What is wrong with our legislators? Beggars destroy jobs in San Francisco. Smelly homeless make many public transit riders sick and unwilling to ride public transit............. but the trivial problem of naked men has risen to the top of the pile for Democratic Party regulation.
