Nitrous

Over the past four months I have dealt with pain and many doctors. While there is strong medical willingness to fight pain over sustained periods, short intense pain is tolerated.

Some shots are particularly painful, such as steroid shots, and some brief procedures have intense pain such as nerve measurements.

Proposal: a new invention.  The gas nitrous oxide is particularly valuable for short-term intense pain. The patient could be given a strong 20 or 30 second dose of nitrous oxide, it would relieve brief intense pain.

The positive argument for nitrous oxide is that it is a painkiller, very fast acting and it accelerates the mental clock so that the intense pain that seems to occur... occurs in a brief time period that isn’t worth complaining about.

The negative about nitrous oxide is that doctors and others occasionally use it to commit suicide.

My proposed invention would be a disposable nose mask with a single dosage of nitrous oxide.  It would work for 30 seconds to relieve brief pain but would be useless for committing suicide.
