In the 1960s through the 1980s it was common to advise job seekers to go to businesses they were interested in and conduct an informational interview.
The goal of the informational interview was partly surreptitious. The informational interviewer was really exposing themself to a corporate employee who might recommend them to someone else in the company, or hire them directly.
Finding a new job is no longer done with informational interviews. The process is significantly different. I am not covering that subject here. I merely want to point out that most people in business environments do not have time to sit and talk to an outsider out of sheer kindness. Most people are working too hard and too long.
