The first was a severely disabled man who got full coverage for attendants, two per day. Over several years I watched two of these attendants become disabled as they figured out that it was a good racket to get out of working.
The second was in my favorite coffee shop; the service counter was lowered during a recent remodel for disabled customers. The consequence was that two tall baristas were forced to quit before their backs were badly hurt from bending over.
I actively supported ADA before it passed and was active in its implementation and promulgation.
The way legislatures are supposed to work is that they make modifications for many years after legislation is enacted.
But I was dumb enough to believe that Congress would do its job and modify the law and regulations after it saw some of the harmful consequences. I was dumb. Congress is even dumber, more irresponsible and very incompetent.
