Right now we have the fastest GDP growth in several decades and the worst unemployment. Is that bad?
Hell no!
Both the GDP growth and the high unemployment arise from the same source: 15 years of the fastest gains in productivity in American history (to be truthful, measurement of productivity doesn't go back very far).
We are going to have very healthy economic growth for many years (unless Congress creates unnecessary new burdens) which will mean much higher wages and faster economic growth for everyone. Today's unemployed will be coming back into the workplace with better, more interesting and more rewarding jobs.
The comparable analogy would be having lived with a cracked tooth, having it removed and being able to eat with more gusto and pleasure.
On top of this, the future means no more end of the world gloom, no more Pollyanna complaints about "too big", "too wasteful" and "too bad for the environment". We are in the era of abundant global natural gas and the Middle Eastern oil-dependence-nightmare is coming to an end. Screw Saudi Arabia.
Many reputable scientist are finally coming out of the closet and saying that global warming is a theory with little substance.
