I encouraged an historian friend to write a book on the history of capitalism. Here is the NYTimes review.
My question is whether a newspaper book review sells books. My books never saw any results from newspaper reviews that was noticeable or from guest radio and TV appearances...over a thirty year period. (In total my books sold over half a million copies).
One of my friends (Kent) has a successful Internet business directed at teens. Major reviews in major newspapers, one was nearly a full page in the LA Times, showed no increase in sales or site visits.
On one of my blogs about politics I've pointed out that newspaper endorsements are worthless.
So what about book reviews?
