On several occasions, when I
was younger, I spent time talking to Roman Catholics about their
religion and how it didn't fit into the contemporary world. Most often
they had already reached some personal accommodation that resolved the
specific issues that least fit the modern world such as Ex Cathedra
pronouncements and the ban on birth control.
I've been in touch with several of these friends over the years and I am slowly beginning to regret the time I took to disturb their earlier religious equilibrium. Why? Because they all substituted Lefty Fundamentalism for the Catholic Church. The ideology of politics, hate big business, support income re-distribution and expand government became their new catechism.
They are very much like Jews who are in the Reform movement and the weak-Conservative synagogue goers, Lefty ideology becomes a substitute for religion.
