I have written several times that we may be in the process of losing Japan as a faithful ally. I don't know the all reasons but I know the signs. The week long visit by the Chinese Premier to Japan when I was there in the Spring was the strongest sign that a new alliance of Japan and China is forming.
I'm not the only one to see this immense global shift in real politic. Gordon Chang, an excellent observer, sees it and writes about the consequences in Contentions.
Chang sees us becoming a secondary power in the Pacific as China woos Taiwan and Japan ( both growing love affairs are far along already). This will be evidence of China's determination to have its political power match its economic power over the coming decades....expansionism.
