I hung out with about 60
Elite models in Tokyo during several summers in the early 1980's. They
were all 16 to 17 year old Americans. The owner of the Elite agency in
Tokyo was a friend of mine.
The most distinguishing characteristic of the models (about one out of six were male) was how naive and unintelligent most of them were.
My friend, Paul, and I often talked about how the few bright, sophisticated ones could have anything in the world they wanted if they only had the appropriate skills. The rest would just disappear into society, unknown, unacknowledged.
We pondered how a program to pass on the requisite skills could be developed: a program to find the few beautiful, bright and sophisticated young women and teach them the skills to shake the world.
We settled on creating a small (200 girls) college in Switzerland, designed much like a traditional finishing school, but without the historic hereditary upper class basis. The college would be supported by a few Saudis who would get to meet the graduating class every year.
As you might guess, we never did it.
