George
W.Bush does two things that will endear him to Americans of the future
and many others in the world. Schools, streets and public facilities
will be named after President George W. Bush for centuries to come.
First,
he doesn't watch television news and he gets all his media news from
his daily briefing reports. This is the choice of a man who knows his
role as President is to be a leader not an ego manic who must be loved
by the public and respond to transient public mood shifts.
Second,
he never rebuts and seldom responds to attacks on him or his
positions. These attacks are frequent, rude, dishonest and relentless. When an attack by an opponent harms the standing of the
United States, as was the case when both Democrat candidates for
president publicly threatened the NAFTA treaty, Bush got the Mexican
President and the Canadian Prime Minister to join him in vigorously
supporting NAFTA. He never rebutted the two harmful villains.
Both these behaviors have made sure that our 43rd president will be regarded as a president of great dignity. Dignity
is not following public whims and never stooping to the level of your
opponents. Dignity is a winning behavior trait when the cacophonous
voices of history converge to make long term positive judgments.
