One
of the new enviro-foodie causes to come along last year was the attack
on bottled water. The argument was that bottled water was resource
costly because the bottles were excessive and unnecessary and the water
traveled long distances for no good reason.
The environmentally PC foodie was supposed to reject Perrier or Evian and ask for filtered local water with their dinner.
I've
followed this movement closely since I first became aware of it last
July when four local restaurants dropped bottled water and installed
high-test bamboo-
charcoal filtered water machines.
So far the
movement hasn't caught on. Restaurant customers are still asking for
bottled water, when given the option, and almost never asking for
filtered water in lieu of bottles.
Is environmental PC coming to an end?
