I
recently saw an article somehow associated with the 100th anniversary
of something Freud did. The article pointed out that Freud has had an
influence in every academic department except the psychology department.
Not surprising. When Ernest Jones brought Freudian analysis to the United States after WWI where it was very effectively used to treat the returning vets with hysteria...visible as ticks, limps and distorted posture, Jones specifically trained MDs in psycho-analysis to deliberately avoid psychologists. Psychology at the time was entirely in the thrall of William James' teaching.
That historic pattern remains in America today.
