This is just a question. How have we come to tolerate the terrible quality of our telephone service?
We all get phone calls on our cell phones dropped on a regular basis, often in the middle of important conversations.
The level of cellphone service is not even comparable to landlines, which never get dropped. Are we so in the thrall of mobile communication that we tolerate it or is the reality that we haven't really been given a choice yet? Of course the lack of choice is the consequence of our general government incompetence because neither Japan nor Israel has the disgraceful level of cellphone service we have.
Off the topic note: the term cellphone is now the common term for mobile personal phones, yet it developed in the 1980's when phones weighed a few pounds, were limited to automobiles, before the modern pocket pcs (personal communication system) was in use. The old term has stuck with the new technology. Interesting.
