I believe this is an idea that is derived from a bumper sticker I drove around San Francisco in the early 1990s. My bumper sticker said "Its not what you think"
My bumper sticker came from signs I saw in West Africa. I interpreted the signs to mean something close to the Buddhist view that your mind creates a view of the world that is quite distinct from the world we live in.
The other bumper sticker phrase I got from West Africa was: "Nobody knows tomorrow."
