I'm a strong advocate of Weight Watchers since it worked for me and my partner. It also fits in with the empirical evidence that makes sense to me. I've stated in this blog, many times, that every demographic group, but one, has gained weight in the past two decades. The only demographic group that hasn't gained weight are the yuppies.
Empirical
evidence now explains the yuppie and the Weight Watcher phenomenon.
Social networks and social support are the restraining variable.
Here are the reliable findings: "
A
person's chances of becoming obese increased by 57% if he or she had a
friend who became obese in a given interval. Among pairs of adult
siblings, if one sibling became obese, the chance that the other would
become obese increased by 40%. If one spouse became obese, the
likelihood that the other spouse would become obese increased by 37%.
These effects were not seen among neighbors in the immediate geographic
location. Persons of the same sex had relatively greater influence on
each other than those of the opposite sex. The spread of smoking
cessation did not account for the spread of obesity in the network."
I want to point out for my fellow weight watchers that a great filler upper is popcorn. Using the popper on this page, the West Bend from Target, and spray butter, one half cup of corn fills a whole bowl and is 2 points.
