Three people I trust, and who lived in
hippie times, went to the Summer of Love 40th Anniversary festival in
San Francisco. All three reported the same thing.
The audience included many original hippies, dressed as hippies. The music wasn't very good to contemporary ears and the political rants were as stupid as ever. The audience didn't listen to the rants this year, just as they didn't listen 40 years ago.
The big change was that this year the people in attendance were an audience. Forty years ago the people were an optimistic, up-beat community. Big difference.
