I went to a preview of a Kronos commissioned piece last night. The Kronos Quartet played a seven part composition by Glenn Kotche called Anomaly. Mr. Kotche sat in for the performance as the percussionist using all the traditional percussion plus bells.
Would you like it? I like most of what the Kronos does. This was a brilliant piece specifically suited for the Kronos, with a great deal of lyricism, which I genuinely love, as well as great complexity of meter, harmonics and scales.
I was invited because I was one of several dozen people who donated to the Angel Stoyanof Commission Fund. I will donate more in the future. Angel was a wonderful friend of mine who loved business, got deep pleasure from a "deal" and always joined me in explaining that commerce had powerful and important traditions that are older than Buddhism and Christianity.
