We never seem to hear the end of reports on new research that promises to cure or prevent Alzheimer's.
How
is this possible? Alzheimer's is based on some propensity of the brain
that is established by the time one turns 21 years old.
A
post-mortem study of the brains of nuns in a Tennessee convent were
examined to identify which ones died of Alzheimer's...unambiguously.
Then a double blind study was done to see if the original written applications for admission to the convent, written 50-70 years earlier showed any correlation to the later Alzheimer outcomes. They did. High correlation between simple sentences on the admission application and Alzheimer's in later life.
So what is wrong with science, pharma researchers and big pharma companies that they can't understand the meaning of this study and focus on finding DNA predictors of Alzheimer's? To prevent, diminish or derail Alzheimer's is going to require a genetic modification.
