One of the leading thinkers of our time, a philosopher of science,
was well known for developing the concept of paradigm change. He was
Thomas Kuhn. Kuhn was less well known for saying that science only
changes its main way of thinking when each generation of scientists who
hold the old ideas, die off.
The thesis that I now espouse and that Kuhn trumpeted, that people
don't change once they reach adulthood has other implications too. One
is that a great deal of emphasis should be placed on travel,
experimentation, learning and varieties of experience for young people
between the ages of 16 and 24.
Shape their minds before the concrete hardens.
