There
are two common prayers in Hebrew that Jews say every time they pray. The most common translation of the Hebrew is
totally god centered. I have the two
prayers below with the phonetic Hebrew, the common translations and my neo-zen
translations in bold.
1.
Baruch ata Adonai, Elohaynu melech ha-olam.
Praised be Thou, O Lord, King of the Universe.
Let us revere the great unspeakable that is our universe.
2.
Shema Israel Adonai, Elohaynu, Adonai ehod.
Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.
Listen, family of Israel, to the perpetual sound that is our universe.
My translation fits the Hebrew just as well as the god centered translation, even better since the Tora makes it clear that the symbols " are unspeakable. Nevertheless " is conventionally translated as god.
