Finally there is a conclusive knockout blow in the rebuttal
to Walt and Mearsheimer by Martin Kramer. This issue has been a serious problem
for me because the University of Chicago deliberately ignored this assault, by
one of their faculty (Mearsheimer), on honesty and integrity in public discussion. As a result of
ignoring the issue, I have cancelled my subscriptions from the U of C and will
not be associated with the University in the future. The U of C administration are cowards and worse.
Sorry, back to Kramer. Martin Kramer takes the strong realist position that Walt and
Mearsheimer only pretend to take, while covering their illogical and
anti-Semitic hack job. Kramer shows
that it was the realist position that led America to become a close Israeli
ally only after Israel showed its military power in 1973, before that it was
“even handedness” the policy that Walt and Mearsheimer want to return to.
It has been the open American support of Israel since 1973 that has provided stability on the Eastern Mediterranean for more than 32 years. The realist position has worked and realism is the basis for American support of Israel.
America’s current problem has been that there is no equivalent of Israel on the Persian Gulf, a strong military ally, and now, as a consequence, we have instability in the region with Iran on a tear.
