I’ve looked at the 2006 California election returns for governor. Only one county had a majority vote for the
17 point loser, Democrat Phil Angelides: San Francisco. Only three other
counties had Angelides beating Republican governor Schwarzenneger: Alameda,
Santa Cruz and LA. San Mateo was a
toss-up. What Angelides got, statewide, was core Democrats. He got virtually no independent voters.
If you were in California you would know what happened. We were swamped with one Angelides campaign theme: Schwarzenneger was really George Bush who lied to get us into war in Iraq and drove up gasoline prices.
We see who that campaign appealed to and the outcome.
