Sorry to report this, but my earlier writings about obesity usually being a self control problem, like failing to get good credit, is borne out by the Census data. My earlier observations were based on looking at the most visible non-obese category of exercise and diet fanatics: yuppies.
Going to the data and knowing that educational attainment is mostly a measure of self-control, I was not surprised to find that the difference between not finishing high school resulted in a population with 28% obese (30+BMI) compared to only 17% of the population who are among college graduates. Significant difference. (Table 197 pp133)
Summary: if you have self control, you can finish college, restrain your spending and control your eating.
