The biggest current drop-out problem is with Mexican-Americans. Since the 1960’s the proportion of our population that has graduated from high school has risen from 43% among whites and only 20% among blacks to 85% for whites and 80% among blacks. A truly significant change for America and a reflection of the success of blacks in catching up and getting an education.
Mexican-Americans have only risen from under 20% in 1960 to 51% three years ago. When you hear 'drop-out' think Mexican-American. (Table 214 pp147)
