I returned home to San Francisco from a few months in Tokyo to find that half the gold fish had been eaten from my pond.
For those of you following the raccoon wars, this is a surprising but not unexpected victory for the raccoons.
Neighbors have reported what happened. The fish pond has an electric grate an inch under the water and several electrified bars above the water. The raccoons rolled a small log onto the grate so they could stand on the log, reach into the water and get the fish. The half of the fish that survived probably hid in one of the two underwater shelters I had built.
I'll will have to think about some new defenses. War is alternating technology of defense and offense.
