A guest who stayed with us in Tokyo a few years ago was stunned by the quiet in the middle of the largest, richest, city in the world. I really hadn't noticed.
The level of quiet came home to me one day when approaching home. There is a wall of ivy next to our house. The wall seemed to make a sound like barely running water. Closer examination showed that the sound was thousands of seeds popping open and falling on the leaves below them.
Tokyo, in the near center, is so quiet that I could hear seeds popping open.
