The Wall Street Journal on Thursday reported on the New York Idiotarod which is in its third year and had over 1,000 participants pulling and riding outrageous moving objects. As one of the participants patiently explains: ‘You can do anything as long as you call it art.’ In fact the urban gorilla movement is only about two things: outrageous rebellion and fun.
The urban gorilla movement traces back to Gary Warne in San Francisco, a good friend of mine, pictured in Honest Business. The urban gorilla movement has grown and spread every year since 1975; it is worldwide (outside of Islam.)
I think urban gorillas will be the reason people are willing to go back and live in cities as the cities die. The foresaken cities will provide interesting locations for exotic gorilla events…the urban gorilla movement is about life and vitality.
