If anyone fails to appreciate the persistence of culture they only need watch and listen to Hannah Teter, the Olympic snow boarder. She competes in the Winter Games with I-pod earphones visible.
The current snow boarding esthetic of hang-loose comes directly with the snow board. The snow board evolved directly from Hawaiian surf boards. Surf boards migrated from Hawaii to the West Coast during WWII. So now we have “Aloha brudda” in the Italian Alps. The Hawaiian culture travelled 10,000 miles over 65 years along with the boards. Pretty amazing.
