I can’t say that the best restaurant in San Francisco is closing. I wouldn’t want to get into a debate about the best restaurant. My taste in food is clearly bizarre. The only restaurant I consider “really good” is the French Laundry. I ate there every other month for two years when they first opened. After that the prices went even higher and I couldn’t make reservations. I have no way to evaluate restaurants below the level of the French Laundry.
The most interesting and imaginative restaurant in San Francisco is closing February 14th: Tallula’s is in the Castro on 18th. The
food is French and Indian. Every dish is exotic and exciting. I found it because a Wall Street Journal writer loved it. If you can make it before Tallula’s closes, don’t hesitate. You will know and be able to say you ate at the most interesting and imaginative restaurant in San Francisco.
Harveen, the founder was forced out by a difficult lease, mortgage. After she closes she plans to travel and may return to the Bay Area to try again. I sure hope she tries again, maybe on Divisadero or Valencia.
